Are you a designer or a person who is interested in creating online portfolio? In many instances, your portfolio will be looked at without you present, by employers or a visitor, who have never spoken to you or never seen you. If your portfolio should stand out from others and speak for you in situation like hiring or marketing for freelance, its worth investing some time to create.

The freedom you get to design your won site is, here you are your own client. Obviously lot of positives comes to your mind, at same time you have to take care of the negatives too. As we discussed, here you are your own client and so there will be a tendency of you leveraging the design and forgetting other factors.

While creating an online portfolio you can keep the following points in mind.

1. Identifying your target audience
2. Explain your work in a few words (Screenshots + description, a case study)
3. Select the best of your work
4. Make the site simple and neat (Navigation and layout)
5. Validate for W3C Standards and 508 complaint
